There have been reports of the facebook application “Fancheck” being a virus. Supposedly FanCheck virus requires you to become a fan, and this provides access to your friends, which in turn will be targeted with an email that leads to their computers infection as well.
However, it has also been said that the application itself isn’t a virus, but the first step in an attempt infect many peoples computers with malware. When you google the term “facebook fan check virus” the results are littered with sites that contain malware and are made purely to infect your computer. So by making people talk about this virus, people will google it… go onto the malware sites and be infected.
So it seems that hackers are feeding this rumor around to lead you to search for a solution to the problem which in turn gets you onto a site riddled with malware to infect your computer.
In general I suggest that you stay away from all applications offering to show you who has been on your profile, as they are against facebooks policies anyway… so don’t actually work and also not to search for a solution to the fan check virus as this may get you infected.
